Holiday over and I had a great time! Please go to the bottom to read the start of the World Adventure!

I spent the last few days in Tokyo with friends and new friends too. The salsa scene is very big in Tokyo and they do it with
gusto! You can just ask anyone to dance and the say yes!

I have to say how wonderful the food is in Japan. I ate everything I could lay my hands on. Sushi is great and so is
everything else they do. My favorite drink in Japan is "Coffee in a can". This is dispensed from a machine nice and hot. The coffee is very good indeed. I drank it all the time!

People are very friendly and respectful. It is very easy to ask for directions and those that speak English really want to talk and practice when you give them the chance!

I felt so delighted when I saw the famed Bullet Train fly by!

24/10/2002

Alison Rose our fab London correspondent and her husband will be my guest for dinner tonight. In all the years Alison and I have talked on air we have never met one another. How about that! We plan to have Thai food and I can't wait. I wonder if there might be dancing afterwards?

23/10/2002

Still in London and going dancing tonight, show these Brits how the Aussies can dance!

Tokyo on Friday!

22/10/2002

London is where you find me today and it is great here! Cold too!

I decided to catch a movie last night watching Austin Powers at one of the big cinemas in Lester Square. Such a thrill
knowing everything featured in his "swinging London" was right outside for to swing in too and I did! You see after the
movie I noticed the club next door had SALSA NOW written above the door. I was dressed like a classic backpacker in my jumper, coat and baggy cargo pants with lots of pockets. However the door man said okay and I paid the £5 and raced in and asked the first girl I saw! I danced until 12:30am and then discovering the last train ran around that time ran to the station and just caught the last train from London! Wooo yeah!

21/10/2002

I was on the bus from Sheffield to London and... well the bus drive stopped halfway after driving for 3 hours and said lest have a 25min break, grab something to eat and be back. I think 25mins is different to me as when I returned the bus had, gone! Yeah and took my luggage too! Anyway I got a ride on the next coach by the same company and they returned most of my luggage. The point here is if they don't care, they really don't care. Be careful when traveling!

20/10/2002

Spent the day enjoying the delights of the Steal City Sheffield. Very nice and under the gray /black cover there is some quite lovely architecture to enjoy. Still getting used to the accents though.

19/10/2002
I spent the last few days in York with my relations being spoilt. Yeah, I like it a lot, York is good too!

17/10/2002

Just been down to Scarborough Beach here in Yorkshire. I enjoyed the super cold weather and delicious Scarbourogh Rock.
This is a 10inch long candy with the word Scarborough all the way through it. Enjoyed a great fish and chips at The
Weatherby Whaler in York.(I made sure the mushy peas came with my meal!)

16/10/2002

I joined my Uncle on a drive to his customers in Featherstone. The countryside here is so lovely and green. They have a system here for the motorways with special cats eyes. The green cats eyes are for leaving the motorway and the red marks the edge of the road and white is for the middle. (Poor cats!)

15/10/2002

What a long day on the train! I travel from Conwall to York in about 9 hours. At one point we traveled so close to the coast the wild waves were literally lapping up to the train. We kept our windows closed, that's if we were aloud to open them. The train is a wonderful way to travel, very smooth, lots of leg room, spacious toilets and a cafe!

I met a lovely Aussie Girl on the phone in Scotland who booked the Virgin rail ticket for me. (wow us Aussies are
everywhere!)

5/10/2002

Boy of boy are the days flying by, I must be having fun! Today I went Salsa dancing hunting to see if there is a great place to go dancing tonight. It seems I can't find one! Oh well found a place for tomorrow night! Here in Sheffield it is over cast today and I think it may be time for an early night, or perhaps not!!!!!

4/10/2002

Just arrived in Sheffield after a 5 hour drive on the coach from London! The train is faster however at only £18 return
compared to £40 one way the coach is defiantly the cheapest way to go the distance! I stopped by a fantastic organic food place called luscious and enjoyed the best organically grown food and drinks, I will let you know more of that soon! London is fantastic!

3/10/2002

I saw Big Ben today and heard it chime! I simply took the underground to the Big Ben station and wandered where it was all I could see at the station was a big old building, until I looked up and up and... there she was!!! Everyone was taking photos! A timely experience!

2/10/2002

Just arrived in London to a tube strike!!! Boy it took me nearly three hours to get from the centre to where my cousin lives in Seven Sisters (the tube would take around 10mins!!!!) Every one on the bus was friendly and joined in on a few conversations! The bus was packed and could not leave until one man left who was just only hanging on the out side.
Everyone joined in to tell him to "Get Off"! He complained and said stupid English and some one said we are all human
beings!! I still have love for him! Peace!

1/10/2002

My goal today was to find lots of delicious Venitsen food. If you can avoid the tourist places that are very accessible then you will delight in the best food Italy has to offer. Thanks to this wonderful ongoing experience I am now twice the man I was!

I also found a cheap Internet cafe in Venice, only 7.50euros for an hour, most places are 9.

I go to London tomorrow... Chio!

30/9/2002

I found a nightclub here in Venice called "The Martini Bar". I is free to get in but costs around 9 Euro to buy a drink. So bought only on and sat on it! I had much fun dancing and even was asked to dance by a local there. Often the clubs here have live performers of a duo kind. The sound of the music is exciting and romantic when needed! After dancing I took a walk in the early morning streets of Venice with some new friends I had made. This is really a lovely place.

29/9/2002

Back in Venice again and it's good to be home!(Yes the place really does seem like home, how about that?)

I sat by one of the canals today for an hour just watching the gondolas go by followed by the occasional power boat. It was interesting to see the traffic jams and the very, very casual gondola operators. I saw one fellow smoking and talking on his mobile phone, another tried to hit one of his customers on the head with his ore for too much moving in the boat. Other operators were chatting to one another as they sailed their respective gondolas side by side. Some stealth gondolas shadows those with live music freely entertaining his own customers. Many lovely Japanese tourists decided I was part of the show and started photographing me and waving as they passed by, so did representatives of other countries.(I can now say hello in quite a few languages!) These are only some of the sites I saw... oh and I saw a crab in the water, just a little one, he seemed happy thought.

28/9/2002

I joined my friends in Rome today for a bit of impromptu clothes shopping. (Never go window shopping in Rome with a
couple of Italian girls!!) I spent up more than I planned and I planned to spend nothing! We were all caught up in the frenzy of trying on one great Italian garment after another and another and... in the end I left luck with only a shirt and jacket! I don't know how much the girls bought!(Ninfa and Lorrella) Then it was time for dinner and well er that went late... it is very hard and I mean very hard to find a taxi in Rome on a Saturday night. We ended up finding a bus that was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo packed!

27/9/2002

Yippie, wooo, yeah!! My friends took me dancing! We spend the day in Rome looking, shopping and eating then we went to Lorrellas friends birthday party which was taking place in a local hot night club. They had a mixture of live music and party cds. Every one there was dressed very well in styles I have only seen in the movies. I made a few new friends and forgot their names and danced all night and some of the morning and a little way to the car.

While at the club I was presented with a special cocktail, that required special secret ingredients and the club was very proud of this. However to me the drink seemed very much like a shandy except it was red. Anyway, it sure was delitziouzow!

Earlier I spent some time at a dubbing studio where English speaking TV shows and movies have Italian voices added. The actor stands in sound studio with the show projected onto a large screen, listens to the original then reads the Italian script.
They often get each scene in one take. Bravo!

26/9/2002

Rome the city of choice today and boy is it hot! I am going to the studio where the movies and TV shows are dubbed into Italian. I might offer my voice and my few Italian words to help, no charge! (What a guy, huh?)

Every where you look there are beautiful buildings and so many people, oh and lots of traffic! Many people use scooters which you can drive from the age of 14. There are homeless people asking for money and most shop owners seem to move
them along, how do you know if these people really are truly poor or just working the system?

It is interesting how so many people here complain of the pushing and shoving yet so many do it? I wonder if any of those who complain do some shoving occasionally? To me it's a great experience!

25/9/2002

The pizza here is with out question the best I have ever eaten and so too is the coffee. Italians sure do know food! I think I will return to Perth as "DJ Phat Man". Oh I went for a Gondola ride as well and nearly fell out of the boat. It seems the no standing rule in boats applies to Gondolas as well!

24/9/2002

I decided to write a few post cards and learn some more Italian, I can't write it yet but speaking it a little better. I have booked flight to Roma (Rome) for a few days to see the great sights there, like the Coliseum! A little rain today and enjoyed a some lovely food and vino in a small bar.

Hey I just met Rebecca Boteler from our 6PR News room, how about that what a small world!!!

She is looking great well and health! Yeah! 6PR People are all over the world!!!

23/9/2000

Boy oh boy, I had a magic dance in St Marcos Square to the sounds of a small jazz combo. After a friend and I took a walk looking for some where else to go and met some people from a cruise ship who were also looking for a bar. We showed them the way to PARTY!!! (They seemed happy.)

Earlier I had dinner with a group of friends and we enjoyed good food, good wine and comical attempts by Jon Lewis to speak Italian! It seems better if I employ the use of mime as way of international communication. Most people here think I am American. How about that dude!

It seemed during the day the St Marcos Square was flooded, not by tourists rather it was aqua!

22/9/2002

Phew such a long time in the plane!

22/9/2002

Tango! Wow, I finally found somewhere to dance the Tango here ?n ?stanbul. The hotel Barcelona looked just like the movies with a slight smoky haze and very stylish people gliding around the floor. They even seemed happy to put up with my very shaky beginnings. It was kind of like the United Nations of Tango as I danced with a French girl then Turkish, American and more. Everyone was friendly. By the way learning Tango ?s easy, you just need to give ?t ded?cat?on!

Earlier I met up with some new friends Chas and Robyn for a look at some of the Sultans Palaces. The Ottomans sure were rich! Really loaded!

I head off to Venice tomorrow at ahhhh.... 7:30am, was I even paying attention when I booked that time?

21/9/2002

What a big day! I spent Friday wondering the streets of the ?stanbul by the Bosphoros river and meeting the people, eating the wonderful food and just getting to know the place. I had some fun trying to catch a bus back to the hotel as I caught the wrong one. The conductor suggested I now stay seated and take the bus to the terminal where some who spoke English might be able to help! It was then arranged for another bus to take me back to my hotel through the very narrow streets. At one point my bus was jammed an on coming bus and traffic piled up either side with horns honking! We eventually worked ?t out. Later I joined my buddy Mike and enjoyed the night life of ?stanbul to the mixed sounds of trad?t?onal Turkish music overlapping into pop top 40. We felt quite safe and after all the fun took a walk to find the hotel used ?n the book Murder on the Orient Express. Although a little run down ?t ?s a classic hotel ?n so many ways with the or?g?anl exposed central lift to huge ballroom, classic chanderleeas and rooms dedicated to famous people. We wondered if these people actually regularly stayed ?n these particular rooms? The night finished at wow, 4:30am! Night night...

20/9/2002

If you see some spell?ng errorsss pleasse let me know so eye can fix themm. Thank yu!

Turkey, ?stanbul ?s where you will find me today! It sure ?s ?nterest?ng getting around the Turkish, keyboard! If I type an "I" the computer reads ?t as something else, so I need to type an "? or i" to make things work. (Wow, that's why I love traveling
as ?t broadens the mind and the stomach!)

I will shortly be taking a cruise on the ?stanbul Bogaz? (Bosphors) river.

The people are very nice and soooo happy ?f you can say at least one Turkish word, so I have been pract?c?ng "thank you" (teh' shea' quar).

Almost every where you can find people selling bread, sweets and paper handkerchiefs. (I had an opportunity of buying a paper handkerchief, but I blew ?t!)

The places from the Ottoman times a just ?ncred?ble and so much history here, I just gotta get back outside and see some more old stuff!

19/9/2002

ZZZZZZZZzzzzz I have just spent the last 24hours on planes and airport terminals zzz... I actually met some great people. A German couple (Joshep and Stephany) who taught me some Turkish words. (I hope I was a good student!) Later I met Jan on
the plane who taught me about weather patterns and geography as she ?s a teacher of these things, very ?nterest?ng! Did you know "Weather Fronts" are called fronts as this science was discovered during the WW2 and they gave ?t a military term, did you know that, did ya, huh, did ya?

I flew from Toronto to London to ?stanbul, had some dinner, a quick site seeing car tour and sleep.

18/9/2002

Spent the day just wandering the streets of Toronto. People here walk as slowly as they do ?n Perth. Very relaxing. I had a
look at the big lake and tried to view as far as Niagara Falls!

15/9/2002

I had such a decadent day in Toronto today as all I did was... stayed in bed watching the Star Trek marathon on TV and had room service. It was fantastic!!!! I have never watched so much TV in my life or so much Star Trek! Beam me up Scotty!

Later... I met Barry who has been a keen listener for over a year now, tuning in on the internet. He is a teacher of Math's and
Physical exercise. We had a great chat and dinner in a Chinese Restaurant. A great night indeed, thanks Barry! Later I went in search of a Salsa club and found one that was closed so it will be mine tomorrow night! Yeah! Toronto is a very nice place and I will see more and the tower tomorrow!

14/9/2002

Here I am now in downtown Toronto, Canada! This such a lovely place with great people. I met Peer on the bus from the airport (the cheapest way to get from the airport to downtown). She is here heading her fashion company from Germany for a few days. Get this, her only concern about visiting Australia one day is the time it takes to get there. I wonder how many other people feel that way? I was delighted when food shopping just now that they have one of my favourite foods here, pickled eggs! Yummmm!!!! Tomorrow I plan to see the sights, go to the top of the Sears tower and eat! Oh and off course dancing!!!!! How are things in Perth? I'd really like to know! Click on this to Talk to me

13/9/2002
I had another easy day, must be something about holidays. I watched a lot of American TV, which is very interesting in the way they do things differently to us. For example a program reminder will appear in the middle of the commercial break, yet when they return there is not onscreen mention of what show you are watching.
After the easy day we went dancing at the famous Hotel Del Coronado to the smooth tunes of the piano bar and an Irish coffee and perhaps a brandy.
Earlier we took a lovely walk by the Del Mar beach. It was great to see how many families were on the beach cooking dinner (yes you can have a fire on the beaches here) and playing beach games.

12/9/2002

I spent the day in La Hoya here in San Diego and had such a relaxing time. I ate something called a Killer Sub lots of meat in a roll and some nice mayonnaise. Later my friends took me to Pacific beach for a walk, watch the sun set and eat food by the ocean. After that we took a second trip to a huge electrical store in search of a digital camera. It seems the new Canon is the choice for me. By the way they use Mos as an abbreviation for months unlike our Mths, how about that! Off to New York in a few days!

11/9/2002
September 11 2002 one year after the terrorist attack on America. It was a quiet day with a lot of flags and a big emphasis on the tragedy of a year ago. Over all the spirit of the day was most uplifting. I was wondering how Jay Leno would conduct his comedy show.

My friends and I took a stroll on Venice Beach for my second time now and had a great tasting hot dog from a shop that has over a thousand combinations for the delicious treats! Then off the NBC studios for Jay!
As it turned out the Jay Leno show was respectful with some fun laughs too. It took over 4 hours from lining up to leaving for the one hour show. What a buzz! By the way during the commercial breaks the band plays some great music boogie in our seats.
After the show we got some thing to eat and took a 2.5hour drive back to San Diego.

10/9/2002
Today we checked out a few more hotel/casinos like the Hard Rock Caf? which has two or three huge (10stories high) guitars making it a must see, then it was time to leave the bright lights of Vegas and head down to Los Angeles in hope of acquiring some tickets to a TV show. It took a few hours to arrive in Hollywood and we found some! A guy was giving away tickets to the Jay Leno show. We then got a hotel room, got some food and did some preparation by watching Jay Leno be we all went to bed.

9/9/2002
Oh boy waking up in Las Vegas! Last night we arrived cruised the town and went dancing until 2am.
Paris hotel/casino was our choice clearly marked with a big solid balloon and a half size replica of the Eiffel tower. This
tower cost 28million (the original cost 1.5million) to build. The original plans of Gustav Eiffel were used, however unlike
the original this tower was welded together for extra strength so to make it look realistic all the rivets had to be welded on.
You can see clearly for about 100 miles from the top of the tower. (Far out!)
We had a look at all the very odd looking hotels like the Luxor which looks like a Pyramid, Treasure Island which looks like a, yeah you guessed it a Treasure Island, New York New York which looks just like the N.Y. skyline and so many more.
They all seem to have great free shows like the battle of the pirates and the British including the sinking of a huge old
fashioned sailing ship at Treasure Island. The Rio had the best dancing show in the air and then threw beaded necklaces to
those below. Downtown in Fremont street they covered a whole street and with a tightly fitted lighting rig and reproduced
fireworks then actual images like girls dancing and jet planes flying over head!

I decided to catch a real Vegas show and sat down to the Las Vegas Premier of Andre-Philippe Gagnon. This man is brilliant!
He entertains by singing just like entertainer he is impersonating. He even impersonated one of the audience members, really impressive! Andre is very funny and very cool! Then it was time for dancing and strawberry daiquiri in an oversized ceramic Paris balloon container! Yeah!

8/9/2002
Today we set off to Las Vegas! Like the kings says, Viva Las Vegas, viva, vivaaaaa, Las Vegas? Heading to Nevada we stopped at the worlds tallest thermometer in Baker California, where it was reading 90degrees faranheight. We had a huge meal at the Original Bun Boy dinner, whose founders built the giant thermometer. By the way there is a place quite close called Death Valley. I didn't want to go there.
We listened to Highway Radio along the drive with all the latest highway updates and the craziest radio adds for the many casinos/hotels in Vegas. They played all the songs you hear in the movies while the camera pans back to show car cruising the long highways, only this time it was no movie it was real life!
I saw the most interesting trees in the Mojave Desert that looked almost prehistoric called Joshua Trees.
Five and half hours out of San Diego we arrived in Las Vegas!

7/9/2002

We went to Mexico today! The four of us Rob, Janine, Jackie and me took a car, a tank of gas and a map on the back of napkin and headed south! Crossing the boarder was very quick and easy, then we were in Meh hi coe! Did you know there are only two countries where you can see a blowhole? Yeah, it's Mexico and? Australia! The blowhole we saw was in Buhadora
and quite spectacular, a few people got very wet. Then it was off to the beach to discover boiling hot water! The beach is called Aguas Calientes and it was a real experience to be cold above the ankles and really hot below as our feet sunk into certain hot spots in the sand. I have to say it was a very long slow drive back to the USA, talk about congestion! It made me sad to see how poor some of the people are Mexico.

6/9/2002

It was time to take it easy today, so I did! Took a wonder around the local shopping mall and interesting that most of the malls here are out side, no cover. So, today it was raining and everyone got wet. Funny how different countries can be.
Imagine if the shopping malls in Australia were all outside, imagine on a hot day not being able to walk into a huge
air-conditioned building with lots of little shops? It doesn't seem to happen here.

It was very nice to see one of our Aussies doing good in America, Bradley Trevor Greive and his book The Blue Day Book. It was on sale in the local bookstore, very inspiring!

So, what do Americans call a Flat White Coffee? I don't know! So I am having cappuccinos until I find out! Going to
Mexico tomorrow! Arreee baa!

Talk to me

5/9/2002

I had the greatest time at the world famous SanDiego Zoo today! Watching the Giant Pandas eat and just take it easy was a moving experience. It was lovely to see the emphasis placed on Australian animals, especially our Kola Bear! This was the second most promoted animal at the zoo, next to the Pandas! You can easily spend a day at the zoo and while you are there I strongly recommend the bus ride around the zoo to start with.

Later my friend Jackie and I found a real coffee at an Italian caf? I WAS SOOO HAPPY! Then we met some very interesting characters while waiting for a lift in front of the Hard Rock Caf? in SD city. I even got hustled for quarters by an okay looking lady, who made me think she just wanted parking money, she didn't! It was an interesting experience!

Did you know the buses here have the most incredible mini lift system to bring a wheel chair on board! The drive announces that we have a wheel chair and everybody makes room! The people on the bus for some reason all kind of seemed like a family, I didn't know why!
The count down is on to Vegas!

4/9/2002

I just discovered that the movie Top Gun with Tom Cruise was about the air base here in Mira Mar, SanDiego. How about that! The Top Gun base has since been relocated, however there is still a nave base here in Mira Mar.

Today I went along to the local mega cinema to see the latest Vin Diesel movie XXX. It is like an American James Bond.
Great movie lots of action, funny lines, very tough feel and somewhat French feel to the movie making. It was nice to be able to take in hot food and free water! The seats were high back and reclined!
I have noticed that in spite of the heat here in sunny ol' California not many people here wear hats, or shirts at the beach. Why is that?

I will let you know what SD Zoo is like tomorrow! I wonder if they have any of those Killer Kolas?
http://www.jonlewislive.com/emailjon.html

3/9/2002

Hot again today so I went out to trade in my heavy black jeans and jumper for some cool Californian clothing at the Mervyns big sale! After fashion advice from my friends I left with some wrinkle free cream trousers made by Dockers (Go Fremantle!) I also gained a dark blue or maybe it's black thin short-sleeved shirt/jumper made in? Australia! (Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!) Also a blue/green shirt made in Brunei! (gotta be made somewhere, right?)
So where do you think I should go next as I am in SD for a few more days?

My friend Jackie arrived from Sydney today as well and she was surely a tired girl. I have come to the conclusion no one seems to sleep on that flight. We took her to El Torito for half price everything. I gave it a good go and Jackie had an iced tea. Friends Rob & Janine made a proud Aussie go of it too! I had to have a Margarita, which was soooooo delicious!! As a result? I made a new friend ?Scott at Tower Records who although didn't know where the CD I wanted would be (he didn't work there!) He decided to help me find it anyway, how cool are Americans!

2/9/2002

Boy was it hot today, around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, what's that in Celsius? My friends took me to one of the biggest
electrical stores I have ever seen. Frys have every kind of electronic device from Plasma TV screens to Palm Pilots, cool gadgets and so many different choices in every category! Later?

We had Greek food (I had Mossaka) at Spiros Gyros over looking the beautiful San Diego bay with a clear blue sky. They even had real Greek coffee, but the line was too long. Then?

We drove over the huge Coronado Bridge to the famous Del Coronado Hotel, one of the oldest wooden hotels in the world.
Built around the late 1880's this is truly a work of art. This hotel has been featured in lots of movies, do you know any? It's magic to see so many bright coloured summer clothes, yellow, red, blue, funny T-shirts. We enjoyed a cool acoustic band there and got up for a few dances (Cha-Cha & Jive).
Now I am in front of my cable TV with the SiFi channel on (Star Trek, the original!)
Hey where can you get a good cup of coffee here?

1/9/2002

Today was a perfect blue sky day as we sailed a big yacht in the San Diego bay. I was joined by our Radio Psychic Flora and her brothers Peter & Tim. Also captains Jan & Don. It was specky to have such a back drop of Aircraft Carriers and Cruise Ships. I think some one might have put a little something special in my coke as it sure was the best coke I ever tasted! Later we went for some Chinese food, yum!!!!

28/8/2002

Okay it sure has been busy! I just got in to Sandiago from LA in the good ol' USA. I had a very touristy evening with our USA Correspondent Gita Amar. She introduced me to some Beverly Hills Cops (Nothing like Eddie Murphy) and I had a photo taken, being er, umm... arrested. Everything is okay now and officer Sean gave me his "cell phone" number and email to keep in touch. He and his wife want to see Australia some day. Later Gita dropped me off at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where
I met some new people and danced until the early morning. After the dancing I got to know the entertainer Margarita( http://www.listen.to/margareta) and had a quick interview with her. I had a great next day with brand new friend Stephany who showed me around Venice Beach, what an eye opener! Some of the biggest bodies I had ever seen and the men were quite big too!

27/8/2002

What a great night and now I am off to LA in the USA in a 13.5hr flight. I am meeting international correspondent Gita Amar for quick drive tour then off to SA for a week and catch up with Flora! Please let me know what is happening in Australia! jon@jonlewislive.com Up, up and away......

26/8/2002

Hi Folks! I'm writing this entry for Jon, who is sitting back drinking some fine Hunter Valley red wine. I'm Stewart from the website http://www.sydneycafes.com.au/ - I met John this evening, we talked about the wonders of the internet, then met some nice girls from Japan while dinning in a Thai cafe in Five Ways in Paddington, went to the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi, had a few Bacardi Breezers, (Jon drank mineral water) followed with some Yalumba Shiraz, and what can I say? He LOVES Sydney!!! Hello to all the JIMs!

26/8/2002

Last night I had dinner with Margaret Nicholson author of "The Little Aussie Fact Book" along with her husband John. We had the best time and talked of many facts, hardly any of them Aussie! John drove me all around their area by the largest lake in Australia. They are the most charming people and their friends Theo and Pat kindly drove me to Sydney where I plan to meet Stewart from Sydney Cafes.

25/8/2002

This morning hit the gym hard and then took a power walk around the Sydney suburb of Alexandria. The little terrace houses are lovely all with their own identity. The people seemed happy to have little chats, how are you, nice day, g'day! I quickly
(last minute) caught a train to Newscastle to see my relations and had some very interesting conversations on the way. I met a fellow (just out of prison) who has decided to go straight and look after his father. Even thought they don't exactly see eye to eye on many matters he still wants to help his father and is hoping to get a house in the country some where and sort of start
new. He said he saw his daughters growing up and wants them to be proud. I never did catch his name and just know he is going to do it!

Last night I spent the evening with friends and a seafood dinner at Coogie (pronounced Cou-gee, why can't they say it like we do?) Then of to Bondi Beach for coffee and cake. It was a wildly cold night and the locals were all huddled around giant heaters and makeshift plastic walls. Some passer by looked at me as if I wasn't as fit as him so I am going to hit the gym hard this morning and pump up! Yeah! If you have a desire in life, even if your desire is one of pleasure, see it happen and then get up breath some air and go live it! (I just felt you needed to know that!)

Here I am in sunny Sydney right next to the Sydney Harbor Bridge! I have just returned from visiting our on air friend Hans Jackobi at his fab Permaculture Farm Quindalup. The big organic focused farm is a delight to stay at, particularly with his wife's (Coletts) restaurant cooking! I think I may have eaten too much there!

Tomorrow I am heading down to Newcastle or there abouts to visit Margaret Nicolson author of "The Little Aussie Fact Book" where you can find a colour picture and story on me! Any way Margaret and her husband John (good name!) have suggested I stay a night and sample there cooking! (could it be better than the Jakobi's? Stay tuned!)

I have noticed how very different the people are here on the east coast. I can't put my finger on but you know you are not in Western Australia. Do you know what I mean?
Did you know the Sydney Harbor Bridge has approximately 6,000,000 rivets with the largest rivet weighed at 3.5 kilograms and was 395 millimeters long! Riveting!!

Have a free holiday with the book Who's been sleeping in my bed? Think about it, how cheap it would be to swap homes with a friend in another country and do it safely! This is a great idea and it's easy to find out more by going to... http://www.iinet.net.au/~exile
